I saw the headline for this story several places, so I finally decided to click on it. There are some items that are debatable life choices (e.g. PreK)… And then others…You’ve got to be kidding me!!! You are complaining about not being able to save…and spending $2000, $500, and $400 a month on food, entertainment, and clothes respectively – there are a lot of non-essential decisions there.

Yeah, I get that life is more expensive on the coasts, but it’s really hard to take those estimates seriously when we budget a quarter or less than they describe for what I see as elastic expenses (ones we could definitely still cut much further if I were willing to do a little work). And we’re feeding, entertaining, diapering, and clothing six people instead of four. And thats not even counting their budgeted $50 THOUSAND worth of childcare expenses!
Sounds to me like someone has a warped idea of what “middle-class lifestyle” means ($500 a month for entertainment and they have basically no cash flow?)
