Ah, yes. This does indeed reflect my general criticism of nutrition research – or, most specifically, on making recommendations for or against specific foods based on these large observational studies.
Now, the egg one sounds like it might have been a truly terrible study, examining the diet at only one point, but even the best designed observational studies are more exploratory hypotheses-generators than they are explanatory evidence-gatherers.
