Conversation with my dad yesterday made me think of this. Have we discussed Lyman Stone? He’s pro-natalist which I think you might appreciate. Interesting ideas about a direct tax from children to parents, or increased retirement benefits.

Stone is also a frequent contributer to the Federalist, and I always enjoy reading his perspectives. I appreciate how he doesn’t make an either/or argument but a both/and.
On the other hand, when it comes to pronatalist policies, it’s hard to know what to support. Stone himself has reviewed several pronatal policies from other nations, and overwhelming it seems like things just don’t work. How does a nation pull itself out of a population death spiral? (I liked the idea of allocating a portion of payroll taxes to one’s parents – although things get really tough once you start considering the ways American families are increasingly fractured. Does someone get credit just for bringing a child into the world, or do they have to actually raise or support that kid to get a benefit?)
